On 22nd June, His Royal Highness The Duke of Rothesay officially opened our Prince’s Trust Wolfson Centre in Glasgow. Set to become Scotland’s largest employment and enterprise hub, the Centre will support young people to achieve success in education, work and business.
At the event, HRH made a speech to thank volunteers, staff and funders for their role in transforming young lives:
I wanted to use this occasion to express my immense gratitude to so many of you who are here who have played such an important part in enabling this whole project to come to fruition. The role played by the Wolfson Foundation has been truly remarkable in enabling the building and everything that now takes place in it.
But also I know that many of you have provided pro bon assistance in one form or another. For that we are hugely grateful. I can imagine just how many other requests and demands there are on your time and generosity – I can see you all nodding!
From that point of view I appreciate it even more. But I hope all of you have seen what we can achieve as a result of the remarkable staff that the Prince’s Trust has who put so much effort and devotion into helping to turn young peoples lives around.
It’s probably a great deal more challenging than you think but my goodness I’ve seen over the last 40 years - the difference is astonishing - in terms of what you can do just to build people’s self confidence and self esteem. And suddenly young people are able to take on almost anything, including having decided where their talents best lie.
So many young people need that foundation for self-esteem and self-confidence including developing personal and social skills to be able to take on challenges. So I hope that we can do more of this kind of thing all around Scotland.
But it cannot be done, any of this, without so many people like yourselves, without the volunteers, without the mentors, these wonderful people who provide so much of their time to help, encourage and advise, particularly with setting up enterprises.
I am truly grateful to everyone who has helped to make The Trust what it is today. Thank you.
