2020 was a year like no other and, whilst we know there is still significant challenge ahead, we are launching the Sustainable Futures Fund in the context of recovery.

Our ambition is not only to support young people at a time of great need, but to enable Greater Manchester to come out of the pandemic looking confidently into the future – aligning with a clear plan for growing industries providing sustainable, good quality, ‘future-focused’ jobs in the region.

In partnership with Greater Manchester Combined Authority, we are seeking to fund locality specific projects that can deliver targeted pre-employment courses for groups of under-represented young people that will act as a pathway into a job or apprenticeship within a growth or foundational sector.

  • Projects will need to incorporate a work placement, involve a named industry partner in the programme design, include an aspect of digital skills development and provide a level of mental health and wellbeing support for participants.
  • We are looking for projects to secure positive outcomes for 75% of participants, with 60% of those moving into sustainable jobs or apprenticeships.
  • We will be funding projects of between £50,000 and £80,000, aimed at engaging young people aged 16-25 who are not in employment, education or training (NEET) and completing by the end of December 2021.

We are encouraging all projects to focus on a specific Greater Manchester local authority, for young people where this is a proven evidence base of under-representation within their specified industry sector.

As such, the fund is split into Lots, covering the ten Local Authority areas of Greater Manchester, as follows:

Lot 1: Bolton | Lot 2: Bury | Lot 3: Manchester | Lot 4: Oldham | Lot 5: Rochdale | Lot 6: Salford |
Lot 7: Stockport | Lot 8: Tameside | Lot 9: Trafford | Lot 10: Wigan
