Greater Manchester has an ambition to be a world-leading digital city region, recognised globally for its digital innovation. We know this is a fantastic opportunity for the region’s young people, with the right training and support.
The Digital Futures Fund has been created to enhance the support offered to young people in being able to develop their digital skills and provide an opportunity to support them in being able to access sustainable careers in the tech sector. The fund has a particular focus on supporting young people who may be disadvantaged and/or under-represented within the industry.
The key objectives of the fund are:
- To address digital skills gaps to ensure more young people can access the digital sector and help support the increasing recruitment demands of the industry.
- Increase employer engagement to ensure businesses value and prioritise young people within their workforce
- To support young people in accessing and sustaining employment within the digital industry
- To improve the diversity and inclusion of the digital workforce
Three projects have been successful in gaining funding through our Digital Futures Fund. Over the next 12 months, these projects will support over 300 16-25 year olds from Greater Manchester, enabling them to gain the key skills and opportunities needed to move into digital and tech sector careers.
AWS/ReStart and Digital Customer Success by Generation UK
Generation transforms education to employment systems to prepare, place and support people into life-changing careers that would otherwise be inaccessible.
Through the Digital Futures Fund, Generation will be running a mixture of 10-week and 5 -week bootcamps to support young people into careers within Cloud Engineering and Customer Service. The courses are an immersive and intensive experience, and young people graduating are in a fantastic position, along with the help from Generation, to take their first step into rewarding careers.

Digital Boost Youth by We Are Digital
We Are Digital empowers people to enrich lives and communities across the country, through positive, innovative and practical solutions to break down barriers to exclusion.
We Are Digital will be delivering Digital Boost Youth, four 12-week digital marketing courses aimed at groups of young people that are under-represented in the industry and supporting them into a fast-growing area of work.

Digital People by Young Manchester and Hive Learning Network
An innovative partnership project, Digital People creates a new model of human-centred learning that equips young people who most need employment opportunities with the most in-demand digital skills - software development, network engineering, cloud and cyber.
The project is managed by Young Manchester, with delivery and support from Hive Learning Network, Greater Manchester Youth Network and Cisco which will see 120 young people from groups under-represented in the industry, engaged and supported into their first steps into the tech sector.
