The Fairbridge charity worked with young people aged 13 to 25 in 15 centres across the UK, giving them the motivation, self-confidence and skills they need to change their lives. In April 2011 Fairbridge merged with The Prince’s Trust to form one organisation able to offer young people a more joined-up package of support.
FGAS members have a common interest in gardening and the arts. A committee of volunteers organises events and activities for members that focus on these interests and include London-wide activities, half-day and day trips around London and longer visits throughout the UK and to destinations including France, Italy and Spain, together with a Christmas fair and Summer garden party.
Membership of FGAS is £25 per annum for a couple. Members receive four newsletters per year listing all the events, invitations to the Summer and Christmas events, and occasional email updates and information.
All the profits from FGAS’s events and the membership subscriptions raised by FGAS go directly and exclusively to the Explore programme. In the financial year to April 2014, FGAS raised over £29,000, which was spent on helping young people in the Explore programmes based in three centres (Kennington and Poplar in London, and Chatham in Kent) towards realising their potential.
