Cycle Republic - How to Fix a Puncture
For cyclists, punctures are a fact of life. Luckily, they’re easy to sort out.
Once you’ve learned how to fix a puncture, there’s no need to worry about it happening on your ride.
You will need:
- Tyre levers
- Spare inner tube or patch kit
- A pump
As long as you’ve got these items, you can easily whip off your tyre, replace or repair the inner tube, and pump it back up so you can carry on.

- Practise makes perfect! Have a go at taking out your inner tube and putting it back in at home so you know the ropes.
- The recommended pressure for your tyre should be printed on the sidewall – it’s a good place to start if you’re not sure how much air to add!
- It’s a good idea to carry two inner tubes with you on a ride, just in case…
