1. How do I register?

Registering for Your Palace to Palace is quick and simple. Simply head to our Your Palace to Palace event page and click the ‘Sign up!’ button. You’ll need to have decided whether you’ll walk or cycle and your chosen distance – 13, 26, 45, 90 or 500 miles – then it’ll just take a few minutes to complete your registration.

You can take part as an individual or as a team. After you have registered just log into the My Registration web page to manage your registration should you wish to invite people to join your team or transfer your registration to another person.

2. Is there a registration fee?

Your Palace to Palace is free to register. However, we’re suggesting a donation of £11 when you register. By donating £11, you could give a young person the chance to speak to our helpline and get critical advice through a phone call or via our new online chat function.

3. Can I register as part of a team?

Yes, absolutely. You can choose to complete an entire distance yourself or you can split the distance with other team members.

If you have already registered, you can log into the ‘My Registration’ web page and select ‘Add Team’ under the event registration. Type the name of the team you wish to join, click ‘Join’ and enter password if prompted.

4. Is there a minimum age limit to take part?

No, but any participant under 18 years old will need a parent or guardian to register on their behalf and consent to their participation.

All the contact details must be of the parent or guardian as we do not have permission to contact anyone under the age of 18 about the challenge or fundraising.

A parent or guardian should create your fundraising page too. Once the page has been created the name on the profile page, the picture and story can be updated.

5. Will I receive regular emails from The Prince’s Trust?

Yes, we will be in touch regularly with any updates you need to know, so please make sure you read our emails. We’ll also give you some great tips on training, nutrition, bike maintenance (if cycling) and fundraising.

You can tailor your communication preferences or unsubscribe at any time by using the link at the bottom of any email we send. We promise not to share your details with anyone else for marketing purposes and you can stop receiving our communications at any time. To change the way we contact you get in touch on 020 7543 1384 or at getinvolved@princes-trust.org.uk.

6. What is Your Palace to Palace?

Your Palace to Palace is an outdoor challenge where participants choose to either walk or cycle one of five distances over a period of up to one week. These distances are the same as those that walkers or cyclists would’ve been taking on at our originally planned Palace to Palace event – plus one much longer option designed for teams. Participants can tackle the distance on one day or cover off the miles over the week. They can also choose to cover the miles themselves or split them with family members, friends, or colleagues.

See our FAQ ‘Which distances are you offering?’ for details on the distances available.

7. When is Your Palace to Palace?

Monday 21st – Sunday 27th September 2020.

We’d encourage you to tackle a portion of your challenge each day, for example you could choose to cycle or walk 15 miles per day over the 7 days to complete ‘The Ultra’ Challenge.

8. Where is your Palace to Palace?

Your Palace to Palace is about going the distance your way, so we are encouraging participants to explore places you have never been before, right on your doorstep.

You could choose a National Park, a local park, or a route which takes you through the heart of your community.

When completing your challenge, remember to follow the latest government guidelines.

9. Which distances are you offering?

Pick your distance. Start from your home.

  • 13 miles (the half)
  • 26 miles (the marathon)
  • 45 miles (the classic)
  • 90 miles (the ultra)
  • 500 miles (the ultimate)

If you want to keep the challenge light, try walking or cycling the shorter distances which can be completed in one day. Or if you’re a bit more experienced with the desire to test yourself to the limit, as an individual or a team, try a longer distance over the week.

10. Can I choose a different distance?

Yes absolutely, we have suggested our usual Palace to Palace distances, plus an extra long distance but this is Your Palace to Palace so it’s up to you if you want to pick a different distance or even want to complete the suggested distances a number of times.

11. How do I track how many miles I have completed?

We recommend joining our Strava community. You can link your Just Giving page so friends and family can see your progress, plus your page will be automatically updated after every walk or ride.

Logging your miles is a great way to help you keep your goal in sight, plus you’ll be able to see yourself climbing up the Your Palace to Palace leader board.

If you don’t have a Strava account, you can create one for free here. There are also plenty of other free apps to track your walks or rides including Cyclemeter, MapMyRide, Nike Running and many more.

12. How do I connect Strava to my Just Giving page?

  • Go to your Just Giving Page
  • Click on ‘Connect to Strava’
  • Give permission for The Prince’s Trust to access your Strava account
  • Select the type of activity you would like to track and unit of measurement
  • Save your settings and your miles will automatically begin appearing on your page

If you don’t have a Strava account, you can create one for free here. There are also plenty of other free apps to track your walks or rides including Cyclemeter, MapMyRide, Nike Running and many more.

13. Can I start the challenge early or late?

Your Palace to Palace officially takes place between 21st – 27th September and we encourage all participants to complete their challenge during this time but if you can’t and you still want to support us please sign up and do the challenge when you can.

14. Do I need to be an experienced cyclist or walker?

No, Your Palace to Palace is open to everyone.

Many of our participants are not experienced, but some who take part are experienced. Whether you’re cycling or walking, you need to be confident, safe and make sure you follow The Highway Code for Pedestrians and/or Cyclists and government guidelines on Covid-19.

15. Do I need any specialist equipment?

If you are cycling, your bicycle needs to be in a good working order and you should wear a correctly-fitted cycle helmet. We recommend a complete bicycle service before you begin training, as well as regular checks throughout the year.

If you are walking, we recommend a good pair of walking boots or shoes. Make sure you wear suitable clothing and footwear for your challenge.

16. Is there a minimum fundraising pledge?

There is no minimum fundraising pledge for Your Palace to Palace, but we would love everyone to try to raise £120 to support young people across the UK to reach their full potential. People who set themselves a target raise more than those that don’t. ,/p>

To give you an idea of how your fundraising can support young people:

  • £55 could give a young person an online session with a youth worker to build their confidence, resilience, and motivation
  • £84 could give one unemployed young person the change to access an online course so they can re-engage with their community and develop critical employability skills for the future
  • £1,500 could help a young person to overcome unemployment and find work - our experienced staff and volunteers can provide employability content, connect them

We are also suggesting a £11 donation upon registration which is a great kick-start to your fundraising, and we’ll be here every step of the way to give you guidance and ideas to help you fundraise.
