Nominated for our Mentor of the Year Award in association with Good Morning Britain, Yasin El Ashrafi supports young people trough his unique approach to mentoring.

Yasin is a mentor for Talent Match Leicestershire, a project that supports 18 - 24 year olds who have been unemployed for over a year. Talent Match is funded by Big Lottery and, in Leicestershire, is led by The Prince’s Trust.

Yasin is also the owner of HQ Recording Studio in Leicester, founded so that he could work flexibly alongside providing care for his disabled son. HQ offers free studio space for unemployed young people to explore their creative talents and receive one-to-one mentoring sessions. Yasin has mentored over 80 young people and has signed songs or projects with eight Talent Match young people.

Yasin said:

Being a mentor has been such a positive experience for me. When I see someone completely change their whole mindset and way of life, it makes me feel like I've made a real difference. It is a reward worth much more than money.

Yasin has had his own personal challenges to overcome, having suffered from a serious drug addiction for around ten years. He has now been clean for over a decade and hopes his story shows that, even if you hit rock bottom, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.

Yasin added:

"My future plans are to go to the top of the music industry and to continue to provide community projects which give a platform to fresh talent. More importantly, I want to continue to inspire more young people to find their purpose and try to achieve their dreams.”
