Ruby was awarded a Development Award by the Prince’s Trust to purchase a Wacom tablet, a prerequisite for her digital illustration course. She is now continuing her studies and has recently been awarded her first illustration commission.

“I am a self-taught artist and I want to study more and get a career in art. I work part time in an administration job but that is not my passion. I found a short online course with SynStudio but didn’t have the financial means to purchase the digital illustration equipment, a Wacom tablet, that was essential for the course.”

“I looked for financial help online and found The Prince’s Trust Development Awards. I completed the short form and spoke to a Prince’s Trust Executive on the phone. About two months later, I found out I was successful, and The Prince’s Trust bought me the Wacom tablet I had asked for. I was delighted!”

“SynStudio online courses are relatively affordable, and my parents kindly gave me a loan to cover my tuition costs. The course I completed was in concept art and illustration and I learnt to draw and paint digitally instead of just on paper. The 10-week course was so good – I felt I had gained a lot and progressed my skills.”

“A friend kindly let me borrow her Wacom tablet, so I knew it was an amazing piece of equipment. Without the funding from The Prince’s Trust, I would not have been able to complete the course, as the tablet was essential. It makes all the difference to upgrade to digital illustration, it’s quicker and more professional.”

“Now, I am taking a further course with SynStudio and learning more. I also recently got a commission from a local school who had seen some of my illustrations of worksheets for children. I am so excited to have that job coming up and doing that alongside my studies. Thank you to The Prince’s Trust for helping me get started on my art career.
