Who is your favourite Marvel character?

My favourite Marvel character is Iron Man because he is smart, witty and rich.

What were you doing before The Prince’s Trust

Before The Prince’s Trust programme I was job hunting. I had completed several courses with The Trust in order to help me decide on my next career move.

How would you describe your experience taking part in the Get Started in Product Design with Marvel programme?

The Get Started in Product Design with Marvel programme was a great way to learn more about the various stages involved in designing and developing products for a major corporation. To have access to leading industry professionals who were willing to share their knowledge was an extremely valuable experience.

The Prince’s Trust was supportive throughout the whole process. The programme lead and other workshop staff were professional, helpful, and keen to understand how they could best help me during and after the course.

What inspired you to design your product for this Marvel collection?

I was allocated to the Women of Marvel team. The main theme for the team’s product range was female empowerment. I wanted to design a product that could be used by women when they go out – as this is when many women feel empowered. The plan was to create a practical, vibrant, and bold multipurpose bag based on the design of a battery – an item known for generating power. The product would incorporate silhouettes of several Marvel female superheroes to represent that every woman can be their own superhero. I also designed a transparent umbrella to match the bag.

Has working with The Prince’s Trust helped you in any way?

Before signing up to The Prince’s Trust course I was not sure what career direction to pursue. The course helped me to identify what skills I would like to use in my next job role.

What have you got out of the Disney mentorship experience?

The mentorship programme has been very useful. My mentor has provided me with advice on how to secure a creative role and we have decided on a plan of action for the next 6 months (e.g. mock interviews to improve my communication skills, working on my CV and cover letter, and a networking strategy). Whenever I've had questions about working with recruiters or had any questions generally, she has helped me a lot - and has been generous with her time and willing to share her expertise. She has helped me develop my confidence and market myself to potential employers.

What are you looking forward to most next and what are your aspirations for the future?

I am looking forward to seeing my products instore when the Women of Marvel range launches later this year. I now hope to secure a creative job role that I enjoy.

Finally, can you describe what this product collaboration with Marvel and shopDisney means to you?

The opportunity to collaborate with such well-known and respected brands has been exciting. It’s not every day you get to design products for Disney and Marvel, and so to see your design ideas be sent to manufacturers and witness their evolution is surreal.
