Corrina, 28 from Walsall in the West Midlands, is excited to finally start her career in the NHS upon completion of her placement through The Prince's Trust Get Into Hospital Services programme.

As part of the Prince’s Trust Get Into Hospital Services programme, Corrina is due to start her placement in October 2020, which will give her the experience and qualification she needs to start applying for roles at her local hospital.

I cannot wait to start my placement. I’ve been unemployed for just over two years. The Prince’s Trust programme has enabled me to increase my confidence, which will enable me to fulfil my dream of working in the NHS. I can’t put into words how excited I am to put on the uniform and start getting the experience I need. I’m raring to go!

Corrina continued: ‘The programme will enable me to gain the qualification I need to become a healthcare assistant, which means I can then start applying for jobs in the NHS. Before I started on the programme I was turned down for a job in a care home, it put me on a bit of a downer and knocked my confidence.'

I’ve now got that confidence back, my husband is encouraging me and I want to do it for my kids too.

'I’m really looking forward to my placement, being on the ward, being as helpful as I can, learning as I go and gaining the knowledge and experience to qualify as a healthcare assistant. My dream job is to become a midwife in the future and I now believe I can achieve that!’

Corrina completed the initial part of the Get into Healthcare programme online with The Prince’s Trust and has to complete 120 hours in a hospital setting to complete her qualification. As part of the programme participants receive free travel, free uniform and funding to buy work shoes.

Corrina is now a permanent member of staff at her local hospital – her first shift as a healthcare assistant was on Christmas Day 2020. Corrina is also looking forward to developing in her role so that she can become a nurse in the future.
