“I began the four-week course at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital not knowing what to expect, but since finishing, I can’t wait to see what my future career holds. I got really valuable experience and it was the foot in the door I needed.”

During her time on the course with the East Lancashire Hospital Trust (ELHT), Sarah joined the fundraising team ELHT&Me and took part in office duties, raffle ticket sales and even helped to set up events.

It was during this time that she found a way to incorporate her passion for digital illustration, by creating artwork of the charity mascot. She also learned more about teamwork and strengthened her communication skills, and how the NHS operates.

The opportunity gave me the chance to learn more about myself, gain new skills, and my confidence just grew and grew. When I got an interview, and then went on to get a job in administration, I was so happy. To be part of an organisation that is working towards the good of everyone feels amazing.”

Sarah has been working within Royal Blackburn Hospital on Bank shifts part-time, and once the pandemic is over, she hopes to open new doors of opportunity and continue to support the fundraising team in her spare time by creating posters that can be coloured in and displayed in people’s windows to show support for the NHS during this time.
