Sam felt disheartened after a long spell of unemployment but taking part in The Prince’s Trust’s Team Programme helped him build confidence and get on the path to achieving his goals.
After being out of work for a year Sam felt adrift and lost confidence in himself, but he knew he needed to make a positive change in his life. When he heard about the Team programme at his local Prince’s Trust centre in Dundee, he leapt at the chance to apply.
He was accepted onto the 12-week program and quickly settled amongst the group, enjoying interesting activities and tackling challenges along with his fellow participants. Sam believes that Team helped enormously with his motivation and strengthened his self-belief.
I had severe confidence issues, and needed an anchor in my life. Team gave me the boost I needed, which will hopefully lead on to a career in photography.
Whilst he was involved in the Team course, Sam became aware of Development Awards. As someone with a keen interest in becoming a photographer but lacking the means to pursue it, Sam was able to apply for the award in order to purchase a camera. This was a massive step for Sam, as it will enable him to build a portfolio for college applications – a path he hopes will lead to success in the field of photography.
Sam now works as an Operations Support Administrator for The Prince’s Trust through Community Jobs Scotland. Though this represents gainful employment, it also gives him to opportunity to continue to build his skillset in the workplace as he prepares for the future. As he has been involved in Prince’s Trust programmes, Sam is delighted to be able to play a role in helping young people achieve their potential.
