Matthew took part in the Enterprise programme in 2016. He has been supported by mentor Liz for the past 12 months.
"I had always considered running workshops and supporting young people as a career, but I didn’t know how I could create that idea into a business. I was badly bullied at school and I wanted to set up my own project to raise awareness in schools around bullying, to give young people the tools to be able to overcome it, and to help to combat the causes.
"I decided to attend the Enterprise programme with The Prince’s Trust and attended the four-day Explore Enterprise Course. The course was intensive but I learnt so much! It built my confidence immensely, and it was great to be surrounded by like-minded people. After the course I was eager to get started and I was very excited when I was offered a mentor.
"The first time I met Liz I didn’t really know what to expect.
"We meet regularly and discuss my progress, and I have the opportunity to ask her questions and discuss the best way forward. She has been able to give me practical tips, especially when I was struggling with elements of my business plan. I have learnt so much from her, not just about setting up my business, but about handling stressful situations, about being resilient, and having confidence in myself and my ideas.
"Without a mentor I am not sure where I would have got to with my business. I hope I would have progressed with it, but I am not sure how far! Liz has definitely held me accountable, and just knowing I have Liz to meet gives me the drive to keep going.
"Liz has been a real inspiration to me. I would like to say thank you to her for everything she has done."
