After getting in trouble with the law, LJ was determined to turn a negative into a positive. As a Prince's Trust Young Ambassador, LJ wants to help other young people to turn their lives around and is taking on this year's Palace to Palace cycling challenge.
Determined to help other young people, LJ is taking place in this year’s Palace to Palace bike ride to raise vital funds for The Prince’s Trust.
"The mistake I made is one I will always regret. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and in a moment of madness I got into a fight, got arrested and was sent to prison. For the next 14 months, there were days when I spent 23 hours locked in a cell. It’s something I never, ever want to go through again. Something good had to come from it."
"Despite my limited cell space, I exercised a lot and started studying a Personal Training qualification. I’m dyslexic and I didn’t have internet access in prison, so I drew and annotated my own exercise diagrams. Before long, inmates were asking me to write them ‘cell workouts’ which motivated me to write a cell-based health and fitness book."
"I first heard of The Prince’s Trust when I saw a poster in the prison library and upon release, equipped with my business idea for Cell Workout and determination, I completed the Enterprise Programme. I was guided every step of the way with training, mentoring and funding."
"In 2017 I was awarded The Prince’s Trust Enterprise Award in the Norwich region, which was such a proud moment for me. As well as being a Prince’s Trust Young Ambassador, I’m also taking part in Palace to Palace to raise vital funds so that The Trust can continue to help young people up and down the country to realise their potential."
"Cell Workout represents my personal journey through prison. I hope in some way it will inspire others in a similar situation to work to achieve their goals and look towards their future. The Prince’s Trust gave me the tools I needed to make this happen and now feel very positive and optimistic about my future, one full of possibility and opportunity."
