Having previously worked with young people at university, Joss was keen to use his experience to volunteer with participants on The Prince’s Trust Team programme.

Volunteering with The Prince’s Trust gave me a sense of pride and perspective.

"I am fortunate to be in the position I am in and to know that I had helped give the participants confidence in their own skills and futures was really rewarding. They ended the day feeling that they could find work and were more talented than they gave themselves credit for.

"I was surprised by the participants’ willingness to open up and I enjoyed knowing that I made a difference by giving participants more self-belief and helping them see that they can be successful in whatever they want to achieve.

To volunteer with young people, you need good teamwork and communication skills but also the ability to be patient and to give the participants time. A personal highlight for me was seeing their confidence and understanding grow throughout the day; we inspired them to believe that their dream job was not as unreachable as they thought it might be.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with the young people and I am looking forward to volunteering with The Prince’s Trust again soon!
