Josh, 22, from Cardiff, was a capable student in school though he lacked concentration and motivation levels in certain subjects, which was reflected in his results.

After school, Josh struggled to find regular work and was in and out of different jobs for several years. He says,

I feel my life was definitely an uncertain one and I wasn't heading in the direction I would have liked. This caused confusion and the feeling of being lost.

In 2017, Josh came across our Get into Digital Skills course, ran in partnership with Codez Academy, Tramshed Tech and the Big Learning Company. While he had reservations at first, once he began the course Josh’s true colours shone through.

He began building apps, learning code from scratch and relished the logical learning patterns that mirrored his interest in engineering. Josh impressed Codez Academy Managing Director Dean Jenkins with his determination and he was offered a job with the company at the end of the course. He has since supported the delivery of other courses, helping other young people to move forward in their lives. He says,

I’ve come on leaps and bounds and I have to credit the programme to where I am now. Without it I definitely wouldn't be in the position I find myself in – it was the start to what I’m hope is a very long and rewarding career. The Prince’s Trust does nothing but help you discover the real you, unlocking all the potential we all have.

Josh has dedicated this year to personal development and learning. He wants to grow within Codez Academy and has high aspirations for the future.
