Despite achieving a degree in design at university, Janine, 27 from Abergavenny, Wales struggled to find a job where she could put her experience and education to use.
Janine managed to secure work in retail but became frustrated that no one would give her a chance to follow her dream. She craved the opportunity to use her creative abilities and realised if no one wanted to give her a role of this kind, she would have to create it herself. The problem was, she had little idea where to start.
Janine came across The Prince’s Trust online and made an enquiry to see how she could get the support she required. She was referred to the Enterprise programme and attended series of workshops which gave her an insight into how to become an entrepreneur. Buoyed by her newfound knowledge, Janine prepared a business plan with the support of an experienced mentor who could help her learn how business works and set realistic expectations.
Janine now runs her own business ‘A Little White Workshop’ which provides engraving and laser cutting services, while she hopes to move into designing and making home wares and accessories, as well as providing creative workshops in the future.
In 2016, Janine entered her artwork into our Tomorrow’s Talent competition and was selected as a winner by retail partner Oasis. Her designs will be used for a ladies’ fashion collection launching at the end of the year.
