When Hayley was younger, she didn’t get the chance to finish her school education. In 2020, she decided to return to college to complete an Art and Design course, and a Development Award from The Prince’s Trust gave her the money she needed to buy the course materials.

“In 2020 I decided to sign up for college and finish my higher education. I was working part time, but I didn’t have much extra money to buy the materials for the course, and as it’s an Art and Design course there are quite a few materials needed.”

Hayley’s college website listed financial support options for students who needed grants to help fund the course. It was there that Hayley first heard of The Prince’s Trust’s grant scheme.

I had never heard of it before, I thought it was really cool. I’d never been in a position to need to apply for a grant, so I wasn’t holding much hope of even hearing back from anyone, but they responded so quickly. The process took about 2 or 3 months, so after starting the course in September, I had the materials I needed before the Christmas holiday which was amazing.

Hayley is now really enjoying the Art and Design course and is looking forward to a bright future.

“I’m thoroughly enjoying the course, and it’s nice to be back in a learning environment. I’m hoping to go to university after this and get more qualifications. I’d love to study Fine Art, and then work to establish a career in art.”

Hayley feels so glad she reached out to The Prince’s Trust and would recommend it to others.

“Just apply – it’s so easy, and it’s taken that immense pressure off me being able to fund myself through this course. A one-time grant has supported me for the whole of the two-year course, so it’s really worth it. Definitely get in touch with The Prince’s Trust!”
