Greig Watson
Early experiences had made Greig nervous about many things and he found it impossible to focus or ask for help. He’d given up on passing any exams or good things happening to him.
When his mum was diagnosed with cancer, it hit him hard. Without a father at home, he also felt responsible for his siblings.
On xl – a programme delivered by Hyndland Secondary School – Greig has never missed a class. Increasingly empathetic towards others, he is very proactive in charity work raising money for people affected by cancer or poverty.
Greig collected the xl group’s 'most effective contributor of 2014' award in a ceremony at Glasgow City Chambers. The group won for raising £252.85 in 25 minutes for charity, as well as various other charity work throughout the year.
After learning about CV writing and job applications, he searched relentlessly for work experience, not giving up until he found a placement in a music shop.
It was during an Outward Bound Adventure course that Greig received the devastating news that his mum had passed away. Despite this, he says:
Greig is working towards his IT Diploma and is eventually hoping to set up his own business donating some of the profit to different charities. He proactively helps younger pupils and is eager to improve his mentoring skills with training with us.
