Fay Greene & Tracy Westley
Several years ago Fay, age 30, found herself homeless, jobless and broke whilst pregnant with her second child.
Fay, from Suffolk, has always had a passion for working with animals, and had previously started a dog grooming business. Unfortunately, a series of events and family problems meant that this closed after a few months and she found herself homeless and jobless.
In January 2014 she realised that she wanted to put her qualifications and passion to good use and started searching online for support. That is when she came across The Trust’s Explore Enterprise programme.
She said, “The information I took away from the course alone was fantastic and a great starting point. This really got the ball rolling for me by making me consider every aspect of my business. Once I had completed the course and had my Business Plan, I applied for a start-up loan.
As well as financial support, Fay was matched with a volunteer business mentor, Tracy. Fay credits Tracy with supporting her success.
Fay now runs her successful dog grooming business, Fay’s Diamond Dog Grooming, has achieved a number of further qualifications and is now a member of The British Isles Grooming Association, helping to shape the future of the industry.
She said, “I will be forever grateful to Tracy and The Prince’s Trust for their belief in me. They made my dream possible. It is a wonderful feeling knowing that every day I get to do what I love and provide a comfortable lifestyle for my family.”
Fay’s Mentor Tracy has been a Business Mentor with The Trust for 18 years. She says she loves helping young people and believes the “relatively small amounts of money that The Trust lends to young entrepreneurs changes lives.”
Tracy describes Fay as “a model mentee and fantastic to work with”.
