Caitlin, 22, from Edinburgh, was out of work for two years and the struggle to find a job had a negative impact on her confidence.

During the pandemic, with her partner studying and a seven-month baby to look after, Caitlin decided to take advantage of the online sessions that The Prince’s Trust were running. She loved wax melts and candles and realised she could turn that interest into a small business that she could run from home whilst looking after her baby.

With a vision to create melts in bold colours and strong scents in various shapes and sizes, Caitlin wanted to give a different edge to her business but was unsure where to start. She reached out to The Prince’s Trust and took part in not only the Enterprise programme, but also attended some Personal and Social Development sessions. This combination allowed her to learn the fundamental skills to start a business, while building her confidence in her idea and herself.

I was anxious and doubted myself all the time, I wasn’t sure if sure it would work but I’m really glad I got in contact with The Trust. It’s been amazing - being able to take part in a lot of group work sessions has done wonders for my anxiety and for the first time I genuinely believe in myself and I know that I can do this. I would’ve been lost without the support from my keyworker, and I’ve gained so much knowledge. I’ve honestly enjoyed every bit of it.

Recently, Caitlin was successful in applying for a grant that would allow her to buy the essential materials she needs to create her products and already she’s generated interest and sales through our social media.

She added: “My social media has boomed, and the grant allowed me to get everything I need to start selling. I’ve been able to advertise and from this I’ve been asked to have my own stall in a few months. I’m so excited for the future.”
