On Wednesday 9th August, 17 employers and 75 young people joined us at City Hall for our speed-dating style recruitment initiative, Get Hired.
The day kicked off with an inspirational speech from lifestyle blogger, Emma Gannon, who shared some very encouraging words with the audience. Leap followed on the motivational morning with a number of activities, where they encouraged the group to discover their inner animal. This worked as a great ice-breaker, allowing the young people to confidently share their best attributes and skills with one another.
The young people then went on to complete a mock interview workshop in preparation for their live panel interviews in the afternoon. Emma Gannon and fellow lifestyle bloggers Megs from Wonderful-You and Danielle shadowed some of the employers and used their experience to inspire and encourage the young people.
In the afternoon everybody had the privilege of hearing from Deputy Mayor, Rajesh Agrawal who shared his success story with the group. Rajesh spoke about growing up in poverty and how this inspired him to start his own business, leading him becoming Deputy Mayor of London.
Rajesh Agrawal said:
One young person who was particularly inspired by Get Hired was Cartelea, she said:
The day was full of positivity and smiles, leaving the young people feeling optimistic and confident to begin their journey in the world of work.
