Boxer David “The Hayemaker” Haye has chosen to become an Ambassador for youth charity The Prince’s Trust.
The former cruiserweight and heavyweight champion of the world is committed to empower young people to unleash their full potential, no matter what their background, and is working with The Trust on a new project that will launch next year.
David Haye says:
That’s why I’m proud to announce my Ambassadorship of The Prince’s Trust. It’s an incredible organisation that helps young people facing all sorts of difficulties in their daily lives to gain the confidence and skills they need to achieve their goals. Together, I hope we can empower even more young people and I’m working closely with The Trust on an exciting new project that’s going to make that possible.”
Prince’s Trust Ambassadors are high profile supporters of The Trust who give their time to help raise awareness of The Trust. Other Prince’s Trust Ambassadors include Gemma Arterton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Idris Elba, Sharon Osbourne and Kevin Spacey.
The announcement of David’s Ambassadorship comes less than a month before his comeback fight against Australian boxer Mark De Mori at The O2 in London, which will take place on Saturday 16th January 2016.
Richard Chadwick, Director at The Prince’s Trust, says:
David took some time out of his training schedule to meet young people from The Prince’s Trust Team programme at his gym in Vauxhall.
Boxing enthusiast Sashi Port, who was part of the group that visited the gym, said:
That’s something I’d lost sight of when I came to The Prince’s Trust; my confidence hit a real low when I dropped out of college and I felt like I didn’t have what it takes to get what I want in life. The Trust gave me back my self belief and helped me to take practical steps towards achieving my goals. I’ve got high hopes for the future again.”
The Prince’s Trust Team programme that Sashi is taking part in is delivered by the Metropolitan Police2 at their police station in Tottenham. Chief Inspector Chris Conrad, Police National Liaison Officer at The Prince’s Trust, works with Sashi’s team and accompanied the group on the visit to David’s gym.
Chris says: “It’s great to have David’s support as he is someone the young people we work with can look up to. He’s all about inspiring young people to be brave in their aspirations and work hard to get to where they want to be in life, so his Ambassadorship for The Trust makes perfect sense.”
