EMC Community Impact Award
The EMC Community Impact Award winner is Skelmersdale Team 42!
The EMC Community Impact Award, in association with Kiss FM, recognises the positive contribution young people make to their local community.
This award category recognises the positive contribution young people make to their local community whilst developing their own skills.
Skelmersdale Team 42 came up with a blueprint for a therapeutic garden that included creating different areas within the garden itself and installing individual seating areas. It took four weeks to transform the garden into a tranquil haven. They even repainted rooms inside the centre with subtle colour schemes personally chosen by the team to create a relaxing environment for users of the counselling service.
An article about a vandalised local nursery prompted 14 unemployed 19 to 25-year-olds to pool their talents for the greater good. Whether it be rain or shine, nothing stopped this group of young people. They cleared the outdoors, built new fences, planted a garden and filled it with toys.
In order to raise awareness, they created a powerful brand called Every Voice Counts, utilised social media, designed posters, t-shirts and wristbands, made a film, designed and distributed leaflets, hosted community events and undertook fundraising. They also developed a business plan and assigned roles to ensure everything remained on track.
This project really has done so much for me and I’ve started to believe in myself so much more.
