Mentoring and meetings with Wayne Hemingway
"I was very excited to show Wayne Hemingway the
designs I had come up with, so when he emailed me to come down to
his office to discuss them and come up with some ideas, I was very
happy."
"Wayne’s studio was in a very nice house - it was a
fantastic studio with lots of beautiful vintage furniture. The
garden was lovely and it looked like an amazing place to work.
"We sat down and went through my ideas. Wayne was very pleased
with the designs I'd already come up with, and then went on to
help me improve my ideas, as well as showing me some artists
to look at for inspiration. It was great to have his mentoring as
he brought my ideas to life, and gave me a lot of inspiration to
help with further development.
"Wayne and I decided to come up with three different themes
for the accessories that we're designing for T.M.Lewin.
Spending time at Wayne's studio and discussing our his ideas
really gave me that extra confidence I needed to improve my designs
before I was due to show them to T.M.Lewin two weeks later at the
first design meeting.
The first design meeting
"I was nervous when I arrived at the design meeting, as there
were quite a lot of people in the room, including people from
T.M.Lewin, and also the production team who will be creating my
clothing items.
"I presented all of my designs, explaining why I had created the
accessories range in the way that I did. They were received very
positively, and then when Wayne came in to talk about the range
further they liked them even more, as he was very good at
talking about the ideas behind designs.
I learnt a lot that day on how to improve my
confidence when in meetings and talking about my work.
"I was very glad Wayne was there to help me out with the
meeting. Everyone was very nice and also contributed their ideas.
The production team showed me all the different things they can do
and it gave me a great picture of what my work will finally look
like. I was very excited to see my designs to come to life. It was
a great meeting and I cannot wait until the next meeting. Now I am
in the process of tidying up my designs and getting them ready to
go into test production."
