Leaving Care Transition Mentor
Do you have the ability to relate to young
people and the commitment to help them overcome often considerable
disadvantages? We are looking for volunteers who can support our
work with young people leaving the care system.
The Leaving Care Programme
There are around 60,000 children in care at any one time, around
0.5% of all children. However, during the course of a year as many
as 85,000 children will spend time in care. Approximately 8,000
young people a year leave care and are more vulnerable than most.
They are more likely to have no qualifications or low basic skills,
or be unemployed or homeless.
The 'Leaving Care Mentor' project enables mentors to support
young people through the transition from leaving care to
independent living.
