Million Makers: The Schools Challenge

15th – 21st November 2010

Million Makers sees groups of pupils compete across the UK to make the most money by setting up their own mini enterprise.

The challenge puts pupils in a real life business situation, teaching them valuable lessons both about themselves and the world of business.

Taking place throughout the autumn term and culminating in Global Entrepreneurship Week (15th – 21st November 2010) Million Makers is free to take part, and all funds raised support The Prince’s Trust.

How will your pupils benefit?

Million Makers encourages the development of essential skills as outlined in the PLTS framework. Pupils have the opportunity to develop skills in fundamental concepts such as:

  • Young people in huddleOrganizing oneself
  • Managing change
  • Economic wellbeing
  • Taking responsibility
  • Perseverance
  • Innovation
  • Developing a “can-do” attitude and nurturing the drive to make things happen

This is an enterprise opportunity that will challenge even the most able pupils. Ofsted has reported that pupils are motivated by enterprise learning. They enjoy being given the autonomy to tackle relevant problems, take responsibility for their own actions, engage in real issues and evaluate the outcome of their decisions.

Why support The Prince’s Trust?

The Prince’s Trust aims to support young disadvantaged young people across the UK. By taking part in Million Makers, your pupils can make a positive contribution to the lives of young people less fortunate than them in their local area.

By learning about the work of The Trust, pupils will come to learn about the diversity of their local community and the real challenges local people their age are facing.

Free resources

The Prince’s Trust will provide a free set of resources to support Key Stage 3 curriculum in Enterprise, PSHE and cross-curriculum teaching.

These resources cover topics including: forming enterprise groups, generating ideas and thinking them through, budgeting, planning the ideas, market research and collating the data, costs, revenue and profit, promotion, confirming costs, final checklist of tasks and evaluation.
