Wild UK Challenge 2010
Go Wild for a weekend - hike, bike and kayak
100 miles in 3 days, coast-to-coast across Somerset and
Devon, racing against other teams and the clock.
The Challenge
The Challenge begins on the rugged north coast of West Somerset,
at historic Dunster Castle, navigates Exmoor with its wild scenic
landscapes, crosses atmospheric Wimbleball Lake, then continues on
through rolling farmland alongside the River Exe to finish on the
sweeping South Devon beaches.
For three days you will travel entirely powered by your own
energy. As part of a team you will compete in navigation tasks,
hill trekking, on and off-road biking, flat water kayaking and
orienteering. The aim is to reach the finish line on the coast at
Exmouth where you will finish the Challenge with a quick sea swim.
It’s not just your physical fitness that will be put to the test
however; there are also a number of mystery challenges en-route
that will earn you extra points.
This will test your physical fitness, mental strength and team
skills – it will be unlike anything you have ever done and your
sense of fulfillment will be incredible. Whether you want to be the
first across the finish line, or to win the fundraising trophy,
your own life and the lives of many disadvantaged young people in
the UK could be changed forever.

Fitness and training
This is a tough Challenge and you will need to be physically
well prepared. By following the recommended training schedule,
people of all current fitness levels can take part. You will need
to train across all disciplines so that you are equally competent
at cycling on hilly terrain, trekking uphill and off-road biking.
Practice of orienteering and navigation will be useful too. You
will be given kayaking instruction before the event, but trying it
out beforehand, whilst not essential, is advised.
Fundraising
The secret to fundraising is having a plan, plenty of ideas and
tons of dedication. You will be given lots of help and advice along
the way, including access to our online Participant Information
Centre and regular correspondence and support from our dedicated
Challenge Team. The sense of satisfaction when you succeed will be
as enormous, especially when you think about how many young
people’s lives you will have helped to change for the better.
Trophies will be awarded to the top individual fundraiser and
the top fundraising team at your Challenge reunion.
