Just the Job with The Prince's Trust
Can you help a young person into
employment?
Every year, we help over 10,000 young people
get back into training, education or employment through our 12 week
development course, Team.
They may never have held down a job, and they might not have any
qualifications, but they want to get their lives back on track. You
can help a young person into employment by providing a
two-week work placement so they can build their
workplace skills and confidence.
Why is it so important?
There are now nearly one million young people unemployed; they
are bearing the brunt of the recession and costing the taxpayer
over £23 million per week in benefits. The young people on Team
want to get into work. However, it is very difficult for the
long-term unemployed to get their foot in the door without a
reference or experience.
Just two weeks with your company can help a young person to
demonstrate the vital skills they need for entry-level
employment:
- Good timekeeping
- Reliability
- Willingness to learn
- Customer service skills
What will you get out of it?
Offering work placements is a fantastic way to engage directly
with the young people you are already supporting. It also:
- Demonstrates your commitment to your local community
- Gives your employees an opportunity to volunteer and develop
their own skills
- Increases awareness and understanding of The Trust’s work
- Will give you a new perspective on your workplace
What do you need to do?
Our Team participants come from a wide range of backgrounds,
many of which have not prepared them for working routine. It is
therefore important for them to start their experience of working
life in a supportive environment.
The first step is to fill in our online survey to find out
whether your place of work is right for our young people. Your
partnership manager will then get in touch to talk about next
steps.
