Young Ambassador takes on new role as a volunteer

Are you a Young Ambassador looking to build upon your previous experience and gain new skills? Find out how Vikky Howells took her involvement with The Trust to the next level as a volunteer.

Vikky Howells, from Newport in South Wales has just signed up as a Prince’s Trust volunteer having been involved with The Trust since she took part in the Enterprise programme in 2009. Vikky had always wanted her own business and when her previous job could no longer meet her childcare needs, she decided that it was the right time to try.

After attending the Enterprise programme, Vikky received support to set-up Premier Logistics Solutions (Ltd), a recruitment and training company for logistics, which recently celebrated its first successful year of trading.

In 2010, Vikky became a Young Ambassador for The Trust. This role gave her the opportunity to speak at events, addressing a variety of people including HRH The Prince of Wales, donors and other young people. These experiences helped Vikky improve her communication skills and build upon her confidence, which she believes was massively fulfilling. Vikky told us:

My main motivation was to help provide direction and guidance to other struggling young people that need help from organisations such as The Trust.”

Vikky is passionate about making a difference and believes that just getting through to one young person is completely worth it.

Vikky enjoyed her experience as a Young Ambassador so much, she has now decided to become a volunteer for The Prince’s Trust so she can take her involvement to the next level. Being a Young Ambassador gave her a great sense of accomplishment which she wanted to build upon by becoming a volunteer for The Trust. Vikky told us:

“The great thing about volunteering is that it gives you a chance to learn new skills; meet new people; work in different environments and support the community. The training for volunteering with The Trust was friendly and relaxed with online modules, practical games and group discussions.”

Vikky is full of enthusiasm for her new role and is looking forward to being matched to her first mentee as a volunteer business mentor.
