Development Awards
Cash grants of up to
£500* to help young people get into education,
training or employment.
*The amount
available varies between each region or country depending on
funding. Please check the regional web
pages for more information.
Examples of what can be funded by a
Development Award:
- Tools or equipment for a job or qualification
e.g. hairdressing kit, carpentry tools, chefs whites
- Equipment or travel costs for
volunteering or structured work experience
- Course fees
- Licence fees e.g. CSCS card
(construction) or SIA licence (security)
- Interview clothes
- Childcare costs to help single
parents complete short-term education courses
- Transport to and from a new job until your first pay
day
What can young people expect?
- The Prince’s Trust will arrange
a face-to-face meeting with a Development Award programme staff
member or volunteer
- The application for
funding will be decided by an independent panel
- If successful, The Prince’s
Trust will arrange payment to the relevant company or
organisation
- The whole process should take
about four to six weeks, so please leave enough time when
applying
Eligible young people are:
- aged 14–16 and not expecting to
achieve five GCSEs grades A-C
- aged 16–25 and not in education,
training or are working less than 16 hours a week.
Applications cannot be for:
- University course fees
- Gap year funding
- Grants for organisations
- Alleviation of hardship
