Get into Cooking
Aimed at 16-25 year olds, the Get into
programme is a taster course designed to give young people the
skills and qualifications required to gain employment.
Offering work experience and industry
recognised certification combined with support and confidence
building, the Get into programme really helps prepare participants
for the world of work.
Get into Cooking:
Working in partnership with Glasgow City Council and City of
Glasgow College, participants on the Get into Cooking programme
spend five weeks learning about the various aspects of food
preparation, as well as gaining certificates in areas such as food
hygiene and health & Safety. They also spend time on valuable
industry placements at well-established eateries including Holiday
Inn, Metropolitan, Radisson Blu, City Inn, Beardmore Hotel,
Millennium Hotel, Carlton George Hotel, The Grill Room at The
Square, Thistle Hotel and Rogano.
The Get into Cooking programme currently runs
in Glasgow, South Lanarkshire and East Ayrshire and this film gives
an insight into what the programme involves.
Course Overview:
Week 1 – Food hygiene certificate,
practical cookery and team challenge
Week 2 – Practical cookery, health and safety
certificate, market awareness and placement interview
Week 3 – Practical cookery, developing
signature dish. CV and interview skills.
Week 4 – Industry placement in a
hotel/restaurant kitchen
Week 5 – job search, Celebration event
cookery preparation, celebration lunch for family and
friends, review and next steps and progression support
