Zico, 21, from Liverpool, has faced many barriers in his life; he had been through the care system, was unemployed and had come close to being involved in crime.
Zico wanted to change his life but had low selfesteem and family issues that hindered his progress and belief in himself. He wanted to find a way to avoid being part of the street crime that is prevalent in the area and this was when he was put in contact with The Prince's Trust and took part on the Team programme at his local fire station.
The team building exercises and work placement soon saw Zico develop many excellent qualities. He did so well, that after a successful time as a youth mentor, he applied for a position with the Fire Service as an Assistant Team Leader and then later as a fire fighter. Zico is now in sustainable employment and has a great sense of his abilities and achievements.
Celebrate Success Zico is the North West Young Achiever of the Year. This award recognises the success of young people in getting into employment, training or education and overcoming substantial barriers to transform their lives.
