the enterprise programme in Scotland
In 2015, The Prince’s Trust combined the
Youth Business Scotland and Explore Enterprise programmes to
provide a joined up and comprehensive support
to young people.
The Enterprise programme supports
young people aged 18 to 30 years-old to start-up and grow in
business, by providing essential funding and professional mentoring
Business start-up support
The Enterprise programme gives practical advice on how to start
up a business, how to write a business
plan, introductory finance training as well as offering loans
of up to £7,500 and grants of up to £1,000.
We work closely with partners across the
Enterprise Network in Scotland and
facilitate regular Elevator events and awareness raising sessions
for young people, offering them a chance to hear from business
leaders and an opportunity to sharpen their networking skills.
Explore Enteprise course
We also offer intensive workshops which cover
a wide variety of areas relevant to business start-ups.
On the following pages you will find links
to hints, tips and activities to help you consider
self-employment, to help you build skills which will be useful
for self-employment, as well as other opportunities such as
employment, volunteering, education or training.
The information is structured around the four
day Explore Enterprise Course, which
you can take part in if you join the Enterprise programme.
It is worth working your way through each day
and then also referring back to each section when you are writing
your business plan and beyond.
As you progress through the materials it is a
good idea to make a note of areas you would like to build on or
improve. You can use a personal development plan (see template
below) to record these development areas and the actions you are
going to take.
This is a really useful tool to use if you are
self-employed as you will be responsible for your own personal
development, rather than your manager or boss. If you're already
signed up to our Enterprise programme, you can also speak to
your Prince's Trust advisor for further support.
