How does it work?
Past awards have included funding for start up youth cafes,
asylum seekers improving perceptions in the community through
photographic exhibitions, community radio stations, organic gardens
kept for and by young people with mental health problems, DVD’s to
raise awareness of crack dealing.
Eligible projects must:
- be run and managed by young people
- deal with a local community need, with clear benefit to that
community
- benefit the young people running the project
- be new or developing initiatives
The following are not eligible:
- Formal groups or organisations
- Expeditions or overseas travel
- Fundraising activities for charity
- Trips and outings, unless they have educational or training
value
How does it help?
Participants can receive:
- A Prince’s Trust staff member or volunteer to support them in
setting goals, making decisions and evaluating their project.
- Access to specialist advice for their project
Who is eligible?
UK residents aged 14 – 25 who:
- Are part of The Trust’s four target groups
- Have a project idea that benefits a local community in the
UK
Key Facts
Over 9,000 young people have received a Community Cash Award to
date.
Recent evaluations of the programme found that:
- 75% of award recipients are now in employment, education or
training.
- 87% of award recipients have developed new skills through
running their community project.
- 95% of award recipients felt they had achieved their goals
