Senior Management Team

The Senior Management Team is responsible for the leadership, strategy and priorities of the organisation, for the delivery of the Business Plan and Budget, and for the overall day to day running of The Trust.

Martina Milburn, CBE

Chief Executive

Martina joined The Trust in May 2004, having been Chief Executive of the BBC Children in Need Appeal since 2000.

Martina trained and began her career as a journalist, established the Press and Communications function for the Catholic Fund for Overseas Development (CAFOD) and worked on a freelance basis for a range of national media. She then held the post of Chief Executive of the Association of Spinal Injury Research, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (ASPIRE).

Martina has been a trustee of several charities and currently sits as a commissioner on the Government’s Commission for Adult Vocational Learning. She co-chairs the Youth Action Group with a minister from the Department for Education. The group includes voluntary sector organisations and nine government departments.

Martina also chairs the Fundraising Implementation Group, which aims to co-ordinate the fundraising activities of the group of Prince’s Charities and sits on several other bodies which support the work of HRH The Prince of Wales.

In the 2012 New Year honours list, Martina received a CBE for services to charity.

Steve Wiggins

Director of Human Resources

Steve joined The Trust from Sue Ryder Care, where he had been HR Director for three and a half years. Before Sue Ryder, Steve was at Barclays, where he undertook a number of senior HR jobs, including Head of HR for Barclays Business Banking and HR Director for Barclays Corporate Banking. He has extensive experience in the development of HR strategy, change management, diversity, leadership and management development.

Paul Brown

Director of Marketing and Communications

The strength of The Prince's Trust brand makes us a positive choice for our young clients, supporters and partners alike. Paul leads The Trust's marketing and communications team who are dedicated to the task of spreading our message to the widest possible audience while building long term value in the brand. Paul joined The Trust in 2002, became head of marketing in 2005 and joined the senior management team in 2007. Previously, Paul managed marketing campaigns for a range of sports, arts and leisure venues. From 1996 to 2002 he was head of marketing at Arts & Business - a charity which, like The Trust, has HRH The Prince of Wales as its President.

Julian Barrell

Director of Fundraising

Julian joined The Prince’s Trust in 1999 and has held a number of fundraising roles including corporate and major donor development. Since 2002 Julian has led on the creation of The Trust’s successful Leadership Group concept and a number of other new fundraising initiatives including the Invest in Futures gala dinner. Prior to joining The Prince’s Trust, Julian worked in fundraising at the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Alan Kennedy

Director of Operations

Having started in the hotel industry with Trusthouse Forte and Granada, Alan went on to join Whitbread PLC where he was responsible for the management and development of several brands, including Beefeater and David Lloyd. He led regional teams of 700 people. He moved on to become Operations Director at Punch Taverns and, subsequently, a board director for Route Organisation, a business services provider in the leisure industry. In his most recent role as Director of Operations at Companion Care Ltd, Alan was responsible for running and growing an innovative and complex veterinary practice network based in Pets at Home stores across the country. Alan already has links with The Trust and is a business mentor for five young people in the Staffordshire area - something he started in 2009. He also coaches a local junior football team. He joined The Trust in September 2011.

Nigel Hopes

Chief Financial Officer

Nigel joined The Trust as Chief Financial Officer in July 2012 from PwC where he was a Partner from 1989 working in audit, corporate finance and transaction services ('TS') roles. For many years he was responsible for the PwC Regional TS team (covering all offices outside of Central London) comprising some 10 partners and 80 staff. He also had a 'sideline' in events and hosted the PLC Awards (often called the City Oscars) for 16 years and set up The techMARK Awards in 2000 . He was personally responsible for setting up the charity collections at these events, which during his tenure raised over £450,000, principally for children focused charities including The Prince's Trust.

Rosemary Watt - Wyness

Director of Policy and Strategy

Rosemary joined The Trust at the end of 2006 as Director for London. Three years later she led the successful merger of the new London and South East region. Regional delivery grew each year to support nearly 8,000 young people. Rosemary was then appointed Director for the South of England before becoming The Trust’s Director of Policy and Strategy. Before joining The Trust Rosemary was Chief Executive of a mental health charity and Deputy Director of an innovative homelessness prevention charity. She established the first project in the UK to mediate between young homeless people and their families. She has an extensive background in young people’s services and leading change.
