Restaurant chain donates life-changing money to The Prince’s Trust

Restaurant chain, The Aagrah Group, has raised £50,000 for The Prince’s Trust, helping unemployed young people back into work.

Aagrah

This comes as one in five young people in Yorkshire and The Humber (20 per cent) are struggling to find a job. Across the region the number of young people trapped on benefits for more than 12 months has recently hit a 13-year high as well as increasing almost six-fold since before the recession.

At their annual charity dinner The Aagrah Group raised £50,000, which will support The Trust’s Development Award programme across the region. This will help hundreds of disadvantaged young people across Yorkshire to receive financial support, helping them access education, training and employment.

Dominic Mills, 26, from Huddersfield, is one such person who has managed to turn his life around thanks to The Trust and is now an ambassador for the charity for his inspirational work in the community. He visited Aagrah to receive the donation on behalf of the charity along with Richard Jackson MBE DL, Chairman of The Prince’s Trust Development Committee.

In 2005 Dominic was released from a nine month prison sentence for robbery, but with help from The Prince’s Trust Dominic has become an active member of the community and a role model for others like him. Read more about Dominic's story.

Dominic said:

The £50,000 donated by Aagrah is a fantastic amount of money and I hope it will go towards helping other young people – like me - who just need a bit of support to change their lives for the better.

Aagrah’s Managing Director Mohammed Aslam MBE commented:

Aagrah has always been a passionate supporter of community projects and the company firmly believes that a disadvantaged background should not be a barrier to success.

Aagrah has helped to change the lives of tens of thousands of people from all backgrounds through its charity wing known as Jannat Welfare International Trust, which has raised more than £1.2 million pounds to date. Aagrah’s Annual dinner supports various charities each year. Its inception 28 years ago is in memory of Aagrah’s Chairman Mohammed Sabir MBE’s late son Sajid Sabir.

The donation demonstrates Aagrah’s commitment to putting something back into their local communities and to improve lives and employment opportunities for people with disadvantaged backgrounds.
