Timothy Carr
Before completing The Prince’s
Trust Get into Construction course, Tim, 25, from
Exeter had been unemployed for 12-months which had a huge
impact on his self esteem. He now has a successful
and enjoyable career in the construction industry.
At school, Tim had struggled academically and left with no
qualifications and no idea of what he wanted to do. He frequently
got in trouble with the law, which made it difficult for him to
find or keep a job and he soon began to struggle with
unemployment.
He remained out of work for 12-months which left him feeling
depressed and struggling to survive financially. Although he
received Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA), Tim didn’t know where to
turn for support.
When Tim saw an advert in his local newspaper for The Prince’s
Trust Get into Construction programme he signed up immediately. The
course, which helps unemployed young people find a job in the
construction industry, proved to be the turning point in his
life.
Tim took full advantage of the programme, learning essential
construction skills from carpenters, electricians and plasterers.
His confidence soared as he gained invaluable experience on a
construction site and obtained his CSCS card - a qualification
necessary to work in construction.
Tim’s hard work and enthusiasm was so impressive that he was
offered a job with Cowlin Construction - the company that helped to
deliver the Get into Construction course. Tim is still with the
company, enjoying his work and the stability it provides in his
life.
Tim said:
Taking part in the Get into Construction
programme made me feel far more confident within myself. I’m
looking forward to continuing a successful career in a job that
makes me very happy.
