Steve Hardie

When Steve joined The Prince's Trust he was fearful of leaving his own home. Now he is a dedicated youth worker, helping other young people move their lives forward.

Steve, who is 25 and from Arbroath, became very introverted and had suicidal thoughts following an unprovoked attack and also losing his father. A psychologist recommended the Team programme as an opportunity to rebuild his confidence, and after completing the 12 week course, Steve was well on the way to turning his life around.Steve Hardie

After the programme, Steve was asked to become a Young Ambassador. Keen to give something back and support other young people, he was only too happy to get involved.

Steve has delivered a number of emotional yet inspirational speeches to various stakeholders during his time as a Young Ambassador. He has spoken to an audience of college and higher education representatives, Dundee Rotary Club and most significantly he spoke at The Trust’s annual Clay Pigeon Shoot and had a significant impact on over 400 guests.

Participating in a recent hustings event, Steve took a lead role in highlighting the effects of long term unemployment on young people to a group of MSPs, taking time to suggest areas where policy could be improved to provide better support.

Steve represented Scotland at The Trust’s Annual Young Ambassador Celebration Event and had the honour of meeting HRH The Duke of Rothesay at St James’s Palace. Having previously never travelled outside Scotland, this was a significant achievement for Steve.

Steve continues to be involved with the Young Ambassador programme, acting as a peer and offering his advice and support.

A committed youth worker, Steve works at the Attic, a drop in centre in Brechin, mentoring some of its 1500 members in moving their lives forward and he is also a volunteer mentor on The Trust’s Get into Youth Work programme.
