Stephanie Tobias

Before getting involved with The Prince’s Trust, Stephanie, 22, from Glasgow, had been unemployed for two years and was juggling being a young carer for her grandmother and her mum. She is now progressing with her chosen career in youth work.

Stephanie left school at 16 and went straight to college. On top of caring for her grandmother and her mum, she was also supporting a friend and a relative through difficult circumstances, helping build their confidence and helping them integrate into society. In addition, Stephanie had lost four family members in a very short period of time and worked hard to develop coping mechanisms to support herself and her family at a difficult time.Stephanie Tobias

From her own personal experience, Stephanie was keen to pursue a career in youth work, helping other young people who need support and applied for The Trust’s Get into Youth Work programme. Stephanie worked hard to develop her skills as a youth worker and became confident and engaging when delivering presentations and energiser sessions.

A work placement in the South East of Glasgow let Stephanie put theory into practice and she worked on engaging local young people, successfully delivering tailored sessions to young people with varying needs.

After completing the programme, Stephanie secured employment at the Way to Go Youth Café in the Gorbals, running a variety of different activities for young people such as summer programmes, a girls group, TGI sports and activities night and drop in sessions. In addition, Stephanie volunteered with Stand International to go to Belarus to teach English, sport, drama, music and art in a school and also did family visits in a hostel for young people who had been in orphanages.

Stephanie remains a key source of support to family and friends, as well as the young people she works with in her local community. She uses the skills she has gained as well as her own experience, to offer practical advice and guidance and is working to hard on progressing in her chosen field of youth work.
