John Campbell

John, 21, from Glasgow, turned to the Fairbridge programme for support after his life had become chaotic. He was keen to use his experience to support other young people and highlight Fairbridge’s work to potential supporters.

John’s life had become fairly chaotic, but with the support of Fairbridge programme he took steps to distance himself from a life-long friend whom he felt no longer had a positive impact on his life.

John CampbellAs a Young Ambassador, John has been involved in a number of corporate events presenting his journey to several hundred people and encouraging support from donors and supporters inspired by his story.

A Fairbridge partnership with Nike gave John the opportunity to participate in a short film which will be used as an intervention tool to help young homeless people in Glasgow. John was very committed throughout filming, often working 12 hour days to ensure an honest portrayal of his journey, which will help empower other vulnerable young people. The film was used at the launch of the new Nike store in Glasgow to highlight the partnership and John also gave a short speech to invited guests.

John played a key role at a fundraising lunch with Edinburgh’s leading financial institutions, taking time to consider his audience and draft his speech accordingly.

With a new passion for health and wellbeing developed through his love for running, John was part of the launch and pitch of the Small Steps 4 Life practitioner toolkit for Fairbridge’s training operation. He delivered a presentation from a young person’s perspective about the links between housing, support and diet to leading health practitioners including the Department of Health’s Chief nutritionist and Head of Communications.

John continues to be involved with Fairbridge, helping motivate and inspire other young people and uses the skills he has learned as an ambassador to cope with everyday life. Hoping to secure a place at college, John realises he has real potential and is working towards a positive future.
