Get Into Sport and Leisure

Nine young people have graduated from Northern Ireland’s first ever Get into Sport & Leisure. The programme aims to provide 16-25 year olds who face barriers in their lives with the qualifications, skills and experience they need to get a job in the sport and leisure industry.

Participants gained the IFA Level 1 Coaching Certificate, the Sport for All Leader Award, a community coaching qualification, a Bronze Medallion Life Saving Award and first aid skills. They also gained insight and experience through work placements with leisure centres, health clubs and community coaching providers.

The graduation ceremony began with a friendly football match. This featured Cool FM's Pete Snodden, BBC’s Mark Sidebottom and U105’s George Jones (see pic). Following the match, the young people were presented with their certificates by Howard Wells, Chief Executive of the IFA.

Michael Mercieca, Director of Finance & Operations for The Prince’s Trust, said: “This is a very exciting scheme. We are grateful for the support of the Irish Football Association and Glentoran Football Club.”
